Description
The 8-course lute after Frei is based on instruments attributed to the Frei family of luthiers, active in southern Germany in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Frei lutes are appreciated for their compact, well-balanced proportions and refined construction, representing a transitional stage between Renaissance and early Baroque design. They typically embody the South German approach to lute making: precise workmanship, lightly built structures, and a focus on clarity and responsiveness.

Note: Lute Pegs are tapered and are held in by friction. As you tune in, press in on the pegs to seat them. This will seat the peg securely in the peg box of the lute. They must be pushed in for a secure hold. Only use enough pressure as necessary. If the pegs slip when released, use peg dope or wax-less chalk to increase the friction.
